An event in which participants can try on kimono took place on March 12, at Kyoto International Conference Center, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. Approximately 150 junior and senior high school students, as well as international students, who had been invited for the first time, enjoyed dressing up in gorgeous kimono.
Kyoto City Government holds the event annually in time for Traditional Industry Day, which falls on March 20. Instructors were from "International Friendship -KYOGOKORO-," an incorporated non-profit organization based in Nakagyo Ward, which provides kimono experiential opportunities and other kimono-related activities.
After having dressed up, the participants strolled around the city. Ozgun Mavuk, a Turkish student at Kyoto University, said, "The pattern is beautiful. It gives a feeling of Japanese culture."
