The major renovation began in 2008 and five buildings among the nine buildings targeted for repair, including the "Koyasu-no-to" pagoda and the "Asakura-do" hall have already been completed. Assembly of the scaffolding and temporary roof to cover the main temple has been underway since this February.
In the test light-up, the main building was illuminated behind the hundreds of logs set up using traditional techniques. The main temple will be covered with the temporary roof and tarpaulins in June and repairs will be completed by March, 2020.
The special evening opening will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (last entry) between March 25 and April 9. There is an admission fee.
