How Does Art Feel When Being Appreciated ?
Experiential Exhibit at Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art5 December 2017 - Kyoto//Sightseeing/EventsUsing its main building which is closed for maintenance work, an event titled "Tenji-kesu no Uchi to Soto," meaning inside and outside an exhibition case, took place at the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, on November 25. Participants entered a glass display case and had a taste of how art objects feel.
This is part of a series of events planned by the museum for citizens' enjoyment, and utilized the facilities' interior space which is empty as the art has been removed. This time, an event through experience was held using display cases on the first floor, and approximately 20 people attended.
After receiving guidance from a director in the exhibition hall, participants entered the display case in turn, serving as models. The other participants were curiously appreciative of the models who remained quite still. The event included the exhibition of 11 people standing in a row, who were finished up as art objects, like wax figures. A participating eight-year-old boy said, "I felt like a display object and tensed up."
