Amanohashidate, Kyoto Prefecture, Covered with Snow
Various Places See Sub-Zero Temperatures21 December 2017 - Kyoto//Sightseeing/EventsSnow, falling intermittently since the night of December 11 along the Japan Sea coast, has accumulated in both urban and mountainous areas in the Tango region of Kyoto Prefecture as of December 12. The entire Amanohashidate area of Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, was also lightly covered with snow.
On the morning of the 12th, there was only a sprinkling of tourists as snow fell from the darkish sky at Kasamatsu Park, Ogaki, Miyazu City. Sunlight occasionally broke through at patches of clear sky, revealing a scenic view of Amanohashidate with white sand and green pine trees, making a dreamy contrast to the surrounding snow-covered mountains.
Employees managing the park worked hard to clear snow using shovels and snowplows.
According to the Kyoto Local Meteorological Observatory, the lowest temperature recorded that morning in Kyoto Prefecture was -2.9 degrees Celsius in Nantan City. Temperatures dropped at other places as well, dipping to -0.9 degrees in Miyazu City, and -0.7 degrees in Kyotango City.
