A collection of movie posters for Clint Eastwood, a US actor known for the "Dirty Harry" series and other films, has been compiled for a book. For more than 40 years, a man from Kyoto City has accumulated the collection. Covering films in the 1950s, in which Eastwood played bit parts, to "Sully," which he directed in 2016, the book delivers a touch of movie history.

The collector is Yoshitaka Miyamoto, a company employee living in Shimogamo Higashihangi-cho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. When he was in sixth grade of elementary school, he was drawn to Clint Eastwood's face, painted on a movie advertising board on his way to school. "Even as an elementary school boy, his coolness electrified me."

Miyamoto started collecting posters in earnest as a junior high school student. He collected posters for almost all the films that Eastwood appeared in or directed, including his film debut, "Revenge of the Creature," and the "Dirty Harry" series. As various posters in a variety of sizes were created for each film, his poster collection is said to have gone up to thousands of sheets. The book published this time, "Clint Eastwood Movie Posters Taizen," contains approximately 200 posters.

The compiled posters also reveal the transitions in the works over time. In recent years, it is usual for posters with the same design to be used worldwide as they are produced based on actors' photos, etc., but until 1970s most foreign posters were hand-painted illustrations. Even posters for the same film varied from one country to another. Miyamoto said, "The more standardized posters have become, the less enjoyable it is to collect them."

Stating that the book is available in bookstores in Kyoto City, Miyamoto further said, "I would like those who saw Clint Eastwood's movies to reminisce about the movies through the posters."

The book is published by Yosensha Publishing Co. Ltd., for 4,104 yen.
