A diorama of a sugar craft Nijo Castle has been unveiled in the lobby of the ANA Crowne Plaza KYOTO, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto. Hotel guests are enjoying the elaborate masterpiece which was reproduced in 1/500th scale.

The display was planned to commemorate the name change from ANA Hotel Kyoto. Nijo Castle was selected as the theme because the hotel is known for being located in front of the castle.

The diorama measures 175 centimeters in length, 145 centimeters in width and 13 centimeters in height. Nine of the hotel pastry chefs created it with the help of aerial photographs over about 2 months. Buildings, including "Honmaru Goten," or main palace, and Ninomaru Palace, are acrylic, and garden trees are portrayed in detail using metal dusted with about 30 kilograms of powdered sugar.

The diorama is on display until the end of March. There is no admission fee.
