SL Kita Biwako-go
Spring Operation Starts19 May 2013 - TrafficThe steam locomotive "SL Kita Biwako-go" started its seasonal service on May 19, for the 22.4 kilometer route between Maibara Station and Kinomoto Station on the JR Hokuriku Main Line. Known by the nickname "Pony," the Class C56 steam locomotive powerfully ran through the rustic scenery after the rice planting.
When the steam locomotive entered Maibara Station at just past 10:00 a.m., children with their parents enthusiastically took commemorative photos. Packed with passengers including middle-aged and older couples, as well as railroad fans, the locomotive started off with its whistle blowing. Along the railway line, fans were seen taking pictures of the locomotive with its white smoke speeding through a background of green wheat fields.
"SL Kita Biwako-go" will also operate twice per day on May 26 and June 2, leaving Maibara Station at 10:09 a.m. and 1:16 p.m. Reservations are necessary. For reservations, call JR-West at 0088-24-5489.
