Fukakusa Mascot "Kicho-kun"
Costume Completed10 June 2013 - Local topicsThe costume of "Kicho-kun," the mascot for the Fukakusa area of Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, was completed and shown to the public. He will appear at events held by the Fukakusa Branch Office of Fushimi Ward, and also will be lent out free of charge to educational facilities or community groups.
The mascot "Kicho-kun" was the idea of the branch office. It was modeled after the many quails which used to live around the Fukakusa area. It was designed by students of Kyoto University of Art & Design and its name was chosen from suggestions submitted by the public last year.
The mascot costume was made to take advantage of "Kicho-kun" for regional development. It is about 180 centimeters tall and 90 centimeters wide, and follows the design faithfully. The office said expectantly, "We hope that Kicho-kun will play an active part in various situations."
