  • Mobile Internet Access Available All along Karasuma Line
    Kyoto City Subway Line

    25 September 2013 - Traffic

On September 25, the Kyoto City Transportation Bureau announced that e-mail and Internet access via mobile phones would be available even on subway trains in service all along the Karasuma Line, one of the Kyoto Subway Lines, from September 30. In addition, emergency alerts can be received in the event of an emergency and disaster message board services can be also accessed.

The target mobile phones are those of three companies: NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, and SoftBank Mobile. Mobile access has already been available between Shijo and Takeda stations since March. The Japan Mobile Communications Infrastructure Association, which is a public utility foundation consisting of mobile phone carriers and other companies, completed installation of cables in the other tunnels for the then yet-to-be-installed zone. The same infrastructure is also scheduled to be completed for the Tozai Line some time during the next fiscal year.
