Cinnamon-Flavored Local Soda
Kyoto Tower and Otabe's Collaborative Effort14 May 2014 - GourmetKyoto Tower in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, has recently begun sales of "Otabena-saidaa," a local soda to commemorate the tower's 50th anniversary. This new carbonated drink has a hint of cinnamon and is produced in collaboration with Otabe Co., Ltd., in Minami Ward, Kyoto, the producer of "Yatsuhashi," a Kyoto confectionery.
Using Yatsuhashi, a traditional sweet and classic Kyoto souvenir, Kyoto Tower planned to make an absolutely unique souvenir. They asked Otabe Co., Ltd., known as the maker of the fresh Yatsuhashi "Otabe," which is cinnamon cookie dough filled with sweet bean paste, to supervise the flavor. The confectionery succeeded in mimicking the taste of "Otabe" after several various flavorings.
The soda is available at Kyoto Tower and Otabe shops. A set of two 95-ml glass bottles costs 500 yen.
