Brain Cake and Eyeball Jelly
"Horror" Sweets at a Shiga Prefecture Hotel"Royal Oak Hotel Spa & Gardens" in Kayanoura, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, is offering a "Horror Plate," an assortment of horror-themed cakes and other sweets until October 31.
The plate includes jelly in which eyeballs appear to float in a glass, a "Brain Cupcake," which is decorated with whip cream arranged to resemble a brain, and other sweets. Added into the frightening five-dessert set are an ear-shaped cookie, tiramisu arranged as a skeleton hand stretching out of a coffin and spider-shaped mousse. It costs 1,800 yen.
Horror sweets were available for the first time last year, and rose in popularity with women who made comments like, "They look incredible on Instagram." Promoting the experience, the hotel said, "Despite the horrific appearance, they've been produced to be genuinely tasty. We hope customers enjoy the sweets even as they fuss, 'They're so creepy!'"
There is another event, the "Sweets and Sandwich Buffet," which also includes horror sweets, on both September 29 and 30, as well as Saturdays and Sundays from October 13 to 28. The buffet starts at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day and has a 90-minute limit. It costs 3,600 yen for junior high school students or older and 1,800 yen for elementary school students.
