"Doshisha Dai Ginjo" Launched
In Honor of 150th Anniversary of Joseph Neesima's Voyage10 June 2014 - Gourmet"Doshisha Dai Ginjo," an original sake, was created in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the voyage to the United States by Joseph Neesima, founder of Doshisha University. Printed on the label are the characters for "Doshisha," calligraphed by Joseph, and a Chinese poem that he composed in Hong Kong, a port of call on his voyage. Also depicted is an illustration of the brig Berlin which he boarded in Hakodate.
The sake has a light, refined flavor. A 720-mililiter bottle costs 1,944 yen. It is sold at Harris Science Hall of Doshisha University, in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto. For more information, call Doshisha Enterprise, at 075-251-3290.
