Togetsu-kyo Bridge Emerges from Darkness Mystically
Arashiyama, Kyoto7 December 2016 - Sightseeing/EventsA test light-up for "Kyoto Arashiyama Hanatouro," an event which illuminates the Saga-Arashiyama region in Ukyo and Nishikyo Wards, Kyoto, was held on December 7. Ahead of its starting date on December 9, tourists exclaimed admiringly over Togetsu-kyo Bridge and the "Bamboo Forest Walkways" that were lit up in the dark.
"Arashiyama Hanatouro" is hosted by Kyoto Hanatouro Promotion Council, which consists of Kyoto Prefectural Government, Kyoto City Government, Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and Industry and others. The event illuminates the area with floodlights and approximately 2,500 lanterns. This year it's marking its 12th anniversary with a stamp rally featuring local mascot characters of the region, such as "Wataru Tsukihashi" of the Arashiyama shopping mall and others. Also, "Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama," which commands a panoramic night view of Kyoto City, will open at night on Saturdays and Sundays.
A woman from Hyogo Prefecture delightedly said, "I was surprised because I didn't know about the illumination. This is a mystic scene perfect for Kyoto in winter, isn't it?" The illumination will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. until December 18. For more information, contact the promotion council at 075-212-8173.
