Kyoto University's GLM Venture Company to Collaborate with German Company18 January 2017 - Business/Company//KyotoOn January 17, GLM Co., Ltd., an electric vehicle (EV) venture manufacturer launched by members of Kyoto University, in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, announced that it would aim to develop communication technology for "Connected Cars" which are constantly linked to the Internet. Planning to equip the next-generation EV supercar "GLM G4," scheduled for mass production in 2019, with the technology, the company has been considering working collaboratively with overseas corporations.
Connected Cars automatically update the onboard software via the Internet. GLM Co., Ltd. judged that Internet connection technology is indispensable for modifying software to control the motor, batteries, sensors and other items of the company's EVs and improving each function.
The company plans to cooperate with ATS Advanced Telematic Systems GmbH, based in Germany and which has onboard, highly safe, high-speed wireless communication technology, and aims to introduce that technology into GLM G4.
"Software development is inseparable from vehicle development. In conjunction with ATS, we will quickly bring in advancing technology," explained Hiroyasu Koma, the representative director and president.
