Recently, an event to enjoy the combination of Japanese sake and Western-style cuisine was held in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto. Participants realized the depth of flavor in sake that goes very well with various types of cuisine.

GEKKEIKAN SAKE Co. Ltd., a mayor sake brewer at Fushimi Ward, invited Luke Mangan, an internationally recognized chef, to tour their brewery. In conjunction with that, they planned this event to promote ways to enjoy sake along with meals, as is done with wine.

The event paired the chef's seven vaunted original dishes with seven different types of sake provided by the brewer. For example, quail smoked with black tea was served along with cask sake. Participants were pleased, saying, "It was unexpected, but these are really good combinations."
