"Nagahama Distillery," a whisky distillery run by Nagahama Roman Beer Co. Ltd., Asahi-cho, Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, has launched its malt whiskey, "AMAHAGAN World Malt Edition No.3."

The new whiskey is the third whiskey of the AMAHAGAN series. This is a blend of malt whiskies produced in a Scottish distillery and in the Nagahama Distillery, which is aged in Mizunara oak wood barrels. This pale amber-colored whiskey is said to taste fruity, like an apple or orange, with a chocolate flavor.

Yusuke Yahisa, who is in charge of distillation, said, "I would like customers to drink our whiskey straight or on the rocks and enjoy its oriental flavor."

The Nagahama Distillery, one of the smallest distilleries in Japan, was founded in 2016 with the aim of producing whiskey that takes advantage of the good climate and natural features of Nagahama, which is surrounded by Lake Biwa and Mt. Ibuki. Its future plan is to produce single malt whiskey, without blending whiskey from another distillery.

The whiskey contains 47 percent ABV. A 700-milliliter bottle costs 6,900 yen excluding tax. It is sold at large liquor stores and department stores across Japan.
